What to Expect on Your Solar Install Day

So now you’ve decided to go ahead with the solar PV system for your home, you’ve taken your time to look over the proposed design, knuckled down the details of your system and signed your contract with First Class Solar. Congratulations!! Here’s to 25+ years of savings! What happens next on the day of your Solar Install?

We Reach Out

  • Installation Date: A member of our administration team will contact you via email with a proposed installation date. You confirm whether the suggested date suits you, and then it’s locked in! If the date doesn’t work, we’ll work with you to find one that does. 
  • Deposit: You’ll also be sent a deposit invoice, with our bank details and other payment options detailed. The deposit amounts to 25% of the full system price, with the balance payable following installation.
  • Extra Information: If we need any further information from you, we’ll ask you for this – possibly your MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number), which is found on your electric bill, or a photograph of your Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) meter. Usually, our technician gets this (and more!) from you at your site inspection, but occasionally we need some extra information to ensure that the install goes as smoothly as possible!

The Week Before Your Install

You’re contacted again by our team, with a friendly reminder about your installation scheduled for the next week. There are some important things to do prior to the install, such as clearing out space where your inverter, batteries and ‘eddi’ will go. We also remind you that the electricity may be switched off for a short period (20-30 minutes) for our electrician to wire up your system safely. Your reminder email has a few more pieces of important information, including what to expect on bad-weather days.

In some cases, we may need to arrange for extra equipment such as ducting, scaffolding, or a scissor lift. Specifics on this are communicated with you directly!

The Day of Install

It’s finally arrived! For a standard installation, our team will arrive at your home or business between 7.30 and 8am. Our roofers and sparks will go over the panel design and cable runs with you before they start, to ensure that the install can be done safely and as much as possible, to your requirements.

Our skilled team will work to ensure that all the equipment, from the bracketing to the panels, the inverter and batteries are safely installed to industry standards. We aim to complete residential system installs in one day – meaning your solar panels will be working right from that day!

The Week After 

Post-Install Visit

Your First Class Solar technician will ring to check in on the install and arrange a post-installation visit. Here, our technician runs you through your system, answering any questions you may have. They will also set you up on the solar app, so that you can monitor your system right from your phone. (Your inverter will need to be within range of your home WiFi for this to work). You are set-up with a Power NI Renewable account meaning you can be paid for any excess electric you export! 

Handover Paperwork

Within a week of installation, our administration team completes all of your necessary paperwork with NIE, finalises your Power NI Renewable account and completes all of the Handover documents. These Handover documents are then sent through to you, and include your testing and commissioning certificates, schematic diagrams and Handover Manual. You also receive your equipment datasheets, manuals and warranty information, and your balance invoice. 

And that’s it. 

You’ve now got a First Class Solar system, making electricity from your very own rooftop and bringing down your electric bills!
